    Visit of the European intellectual David Engels to the Republic of Srpska

    At the initiative and under the organization of the Centre for Socio-Political Research of the Republic of Srpska, one of the most prominent intellectuals of contemporary and classical European thought, Professor David Engels, visited the Republic of Srpska on October 15 and 16, 2025.

    During his stay, the Belgian philosopher and historian delivered a lecture at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Banja Luka, on the topic “Ideology and Politics in Contemporary Europe”. The lecture, organized jointly by the Centre for Socio-Political Research and the Faculty of Political Sciences, was attended by students from all years of study as well as the faculty’s professors. His presentation was followed by an engaging discussion. Prior to the lecture, Professor Engels, Professor Vlade Simović, and the Director of the Centre for Socio-Political Research, Dušan Pavlović, addressed the media.

    Centre for Socio-Political Research, in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska, organized a promotion of Serbian language version of Professor Engels’ book “Defending Europe as a Civilization”. Serbian version was published by the Centre for Socio-Political Research.

    Accompanied by representatives of the Centre for Socio-Political Research, and as part of his activities in the Republic of Srpska, David Engels visited the Museum of the Republic of Srpska, including the exhibitions on Jasenovac and Serbian heraldry titled “The Eagle, the Lion and the Lily.” He also took a walk through the centre of Banja Luka, visiting the Orthodox Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, the Catholic Church of St. Bonaventure, the Ferhad Pasha Mosque, the Crooked Clock, the Monument to the 12 Babies and the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Trinity.

    During the visits, he was also introduced to the Zmijanje embroidery, its history, and its significance for the Serbian people.

    Professor Engels’ visit was extensively covered by the media, and he gave interviews to Glas Srpske and the Radio Television of the Republic of Srpska.
